The House on the Hill (Roderick Cooper)

Medium: Oil and acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 37.5 x 25.5

This piece reflects the desert through my own visual language of color, geometry, architecture, heritage, and imagination. The palette incorporates colors familiar within my Ojibwa heritage, connecting my ancestry to the desert I now call home. Geometric mountains and mid-century architecture ground the composition, while the blue circle within the orange field represents a portal—a glimpse into another universe. The work brings together where I come from, where I am, and what might exist beyond what we can see.
