Fragments of a Landscape (Merritt Price)

Medium: Assembled and painted pieces of reclaimed wood
Dimensions: 21 x 21 x 1.5

Creation of this artwork follows a deliberate, meditative process. Reclaimed wood is cut, sanded, sorted, and assembled by hand. Though the resulting grid suggests order and repetition, each fragment retains its irregularities. Variations in thickness, height, grain, and color create shifts in light, texture, and rhythm that evoke the desert landscape. Balancing geometry and topography, precision and imperfection, the work reflects the tension between human intervention and natural processes. It becomes both object and landscape—sustained looking invites reflection on material, place and time.
