The Boy Looking Back at Me (David Burr)

Medium: Digital photomontage incorporating archival photography
Dimensions: 27.3 x 36.3

The Boy Looking Back at Me transforms the familiar view through a rearview mirror into a meditation on memory, identity, and time. As the artist travels through present-day Palm Springs, his archival childhood photograph appears in the mirror—not simply as a reflection of the past, but as a quiet companion carried into the present. The contrast between the black-and-white child and the muted color of the road ahead suggests that although our surroundings and circumstances change, earlier versions of ourselves remain part of how we see and understand the world.
