Light and Shadow (Michael Chambers)

This painting was inspired by my Great Uncle during his time living in Venice, where he rented an apartment while touring Europe. It captures a quiet late afternoon as he walks his dog Toby along the calle behind his building.

The painting explores the subtle variations of sunlight as it filters through the trees and foliage, creating a tapestry of shifting light and shadow. Those reflections dance across the timeworn, golden stone walls of the Venetian buildings, revealing their texture, warmth and history with light tranforming the familiar into something memorable.
