The Motion Is Tabled (Gary Paterson)

My paintings are an amalgamation of Mid-Century facets. I use breezeblocks, a Mid-Century staple, for the geometric base. The subjects are also from that era, shown in a simple and innocent nod to all things Mid-Century . Colors usually relate to the subject. The titles tie everything together and add friendly humor.

In "The Motion Is Tabled," the breezeblocks are a Modernism "swoop," in muted Mid-Century orange, blue and green. These shapes make movement as they tumble, until they are halted by the darkest value of colors in the swoop-inspired table. The title describes this whole process.
