This is a plein-air painting of a homemade lakeside dock at sunrise. I use pastel chalks on sanded paper. I paint using semi-transparent 'screens' of color until the final details. I was experimenting using a very limited palette, and using value contract, instead of brighter colors, to define the centers of interest.
