On my morning walks, even when the singer stays hidden, I know I’ve entered mockingbird territory. The male lifts a fearless melody, stitching borrowed phrases into a song bigger than one bird. Mockingbirds mate for life, guarding the nest together. In this mixed media collage, a watchful adult teaches the young to listen, learn, and sing back to the world. An acrylic sky of warm, neighboring hues—yellow, orange, and red—glows behind collaged grey birds, finished with hand-drawn marks and local Mockingbird feathers.
