Timeless Traditions- Modern Context-
The scene presents a classic location in Japanese history. The 300+ year old pine rests on the edge of a tidal pond at Tokyo’s Imperial garden- Hama-rikyu. The Garden, created in the 1600’s, housed the detached Palace of the Imperial Family known as the Beach Palace. It was here where generations of shoguns spent the time honored traditions of hunting and entertaining guests.
The bucolic setting on the edge of the growing city now has a modern context, with multi-story buildings providing a backdrop to the still idyllic setting.
