This portrait is a tribute to my abuela, who moved from Puerto Rico to New York and faced every obstacle with grit and grace. I painted her with bold, geometric forms and vibrant colors to reflect her strength and spirit. Sitting in front of a yellow fridge with a cigarette hanging from her mouth, dressed in her favorite striped dress, she radiates confidence and resilience.
