The varying patterns on this piece were created by smoke and direct contact with flame during the pit fire process after the vessel was burnished to achieve the high shine. As the artist I have some influence over the process but ultimately very little control over the final product. This piece evoked the night sky on a surface level but I encourage the viewer to view this piece from their own perspective.
