Colour Dance (Merritt Price)

The assembly of colored raised wood tiles set in a black grid is inspired by

a vintage Linoleum Rug that has covered a rough plank floor at our family

cottage since the 1950s. The fitting together of wooden pieces reflect the

rough-hewn construction of the cottage. Placement of colored squares lead the

viewers eye back and forth in a dance across the surface. The slightly irregular

shapes create a secondary movement. Spelling “Colour” the Canadian way

acknowledges the cottage location on the Skootamatta River in Ontario, Canada.
