Mid-century subjects seen via breezeblock-inspired geometry. Albert Frey is the pre-eminent creator of "Desert Modern" architecture. The Palm Springs Visitor Cener is housed in his iconic structure. Breezeblocks are the cornerstone (corner cement, actually) of Mid-century construction. The openings cut through the blocks can be combined to create a wall of simple or intricate beauty. My "Modernism's High Point" focuses on the skyward thrust of the building's roof, echoed by the blocks' pattern. The title? Well, Frey's design is the epitome of this architecture, and the apex is very high.
