'They Say There’s Truth In Every Dream,' portrays a majestic mesa most sacred to the indigenous peoples of that land, the Zuni. To them, this mesa is called 'Dowa Yalanne’ or “Thunder Mountain”. The work seeks to honor the ancient indigenous concept of being caretakers of this planet, Earth, rather than owners, and how small we are compared to the majesty of what the world has around us. The colors used; siennas, umbers, burnt orange, blues, cadmium yellows, pinks and tones of deep red burgundy—evoke the profound connections between land and spirituality of these peoples that continues today.
