Nature and earth are the essential elements of this sculpture. It is from the earth [clay] by the earth [eons of evolution] and filled with that same earth. This piece is the first one in Marcella Ruble’s newest series that incorporates photos of Joshua Tree National Park. She has used her images to stretch the observer’s perspective when looking at nature. It reflects human attempts to control nature and distort it to their wills, including the unintended consequences. Seeing nature anew hopefully will provide a sense of awe as well as respect for this planet.
