I've always liked the beauty and mystery of luminous objects as photographic subjects. Here I placed a lighted globe on a pedestal of books in the evening desert. The stars, the sunset, and the light spilling on the ground complement the globe. The globe is antique, dating from the mid twentieth century. The title, "The New World", is ironic, dating back to a time when the western hemisphere was "new" and Europe was considered the old world.
