GABRIEL uses the traditional art of weaving, incorporating beads, fiber, photographs, and paper. This character is wearing a halo, but has a court jester costume, and dances on the moon. A cloudy sky is above with a single floating feather.
Historically Gabriel is an archangel in different religions. The calm face in this image is from a photo of an early assemblage of mine that I always loved. I created the face from clay and used found objects to decorate it.
The various papers are painted with acrylic or covered in tie-dyed fabric, woven traditionally as Gabriel’s background.
