Sign Of Love

Since I prefer to paint from a live model, this painting utilizes a constantly available model, my left hand. I feel that hands are amazingly expressive, complex and fascinating, especially considering the vocabulary of Sign Language. In these troubling times, I chose to sign “I LoveYou.” The background is a dark, deeply-textured abstraction to create an oppressive yet enveloping atmosphere, as well as being a stark contrast to the smooth texture and tight rendering of the hand portion of the painting.
