Red Rhapsody

Abstract painting in a rich red and gold palette. I layered the paint using a variety of techniques to create interest, depth and texture. The scrolling black tendril and strong diagonal lines create lots of movement. Subtle intricate shapes give an embossed feel and a bit of mystery. This is part of a series of abstract paintings that are named using musical terms that are descriptive of the character of the work. A rhapsody has irregular, improvisational form and expressive feeling. I used an extra deep (2-12") gallery wrapped canvas.
