Turquoise Door (Mandy Main)

I use traditional oil painting techniques to interpret Mid Century Modern architecture, combining both tradition and modernism. In Turquoise Door, I focused on a detail of the subject that incorporates dramatic lighting and composition. The painting is rendered in oils, applied in layers to achieve a luminous effect. As a nod to my landscape background, I contrast the hard-edged geometric shapes of the house with the organic forms of a rugged hillside in the background and the flowing movement of palm trees.
