In 2022 I met with a group of artists to paint the Southwestern desert. Canyon de Chelly was the last stop before heading to Santa Fe for the Plein Air Convention. I decided to squeeze in an early morning session at Spider Rock Overlook before heading on. Needing to pack and shower, I gave myself till 10am so that I could get to Santa Fe with time to spare. Once I started all bets were off. I painted till past noon, threw my stuff in the car and raced to the convention. I made it just in time to step on stage to receive the "Best Pastel" award. The study was the basis of this painting.
