Similar themes run through my recent work, in all the media I work in. I look for ways to express the landscape in familiar, yet unexpected ways. One medium I particularly enjoy working with is soft pastel. My pastel drawings, are inspired by observing and distilling landscape features down to dynamic and sinuous form using color, texture, pattern or value. I work on black sanded paper, letting the paper color show through. Living in Palm Springs–a region enveloped by visually dramatic geography and unique flora–brings endless ideas for my imagery.
