Land of the Cahuilla (Bradley W Giles)

Dimensions: 18 x 31
This painting depicts a small group of Cahuilla Native Americans of the Palm Springs region Agua Caliente tribe, returning on horseback from a hunting expedition in the valley, in a time prior to California statehood in 1850.
Summer storm clouds loom over the valley floor and Mt San Jacinto in the distance to the west, casting atmospheric light and shadows on the timeless landscape, in a period when the entire Coachella Valley was the homeland of nine various Cahuilla tribes of the southern California region, dating back approximately 5,000 years to present.
