The last light of day can often inspire a work such as this. The palette is intense and at times extraordinary. The tones and light effects that play on the sand and plants create interesting forms and drama. My intentional use of spontaneous, loose brush-work and minimal detail is to convay the feel of the natural, desert wilderness. The cool tones of the foreground sage preview the evening cool.
