Jacumba Valley Wash (Michael James)

"Jacumba Valley Wash" is an 8” x 10” acrylic on canvas landscape painting that captures the captivating essence of the Jacumba Valley,Ca, painted during my time in the Alpine-Campo area. Inspired by early California Impressionists such as Maynard Dixon and Edgar Payne, as well as contemporary American Southwest painters like Logan Maxwell Haggege and Brett Allen-Johnson, I aim to bridge the past and present. The soft tones and dark crimson hills echo traditional techniques, while the use of chromatic realism and the aesthetics of the new Southwest School bring a modern sensibility to the work.
