Mid Century Modern XXV (Mandy Main)

Mid-Century Modern architecture is one of the treasures of the Coachella Valley. My painting "Mid Century Modern XXV" is rendered in oils using a subdued palette of warm colors, applied in layers to achieve a luminous effect. I focused on a detail of the house that incorporates dramatic lighting and composition. As a nod to my landscape background, I contrasted the hard-edged intricate geometric shapes of the iconic architecture with the organic forms of the rugged hillside in the background and the flowing movement of palm trees.
