In my heart, I hold an image, like a talisman, of a dear friend, a high priestess and warrior of the indigenous world, crouching low over the forest floor, arms held high like the wings of a hawk, hair flying, chanting, chanting, chanting as the skies above begin to whirl, guarding with fierce love all living beings. Ostensibly a painting of an ancient tree, this is a portrait of my dear friend.
