The riots at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, NY were a watershed moment for Gay people in the U.S. It was common for Police to raid bars frequented by Gay persons and jail everyone in attendance. On June 28, 1969, the patrons rebelled against the Police raid and several nights of protests ensued. These protests are considered the beginning of the Gay Rights movement and Gay Pride. Depicted in this painting are a "Stone Wall" with the multitude of Gay people behind jail bars. It is a tribute to their bravery which led to the changing of laws and perceptions surrounding Gay people.
