Carol and I were leaving a performance at CV Rep. About 15 paces ahead of us was an old guy walking unsteadily. I quickly caught up with him, put my arm out, and asked if I could give him a lift. He gladly took my arm and we walked to his car. He was very grateful, and after he was seated and buckled up, he said, "It's always the little things that count."
After two more chance encounters with Gavin MacLeod, we became good friends and spoke often on the phone. His stories were phenomenal. I particularly liked his stories covering the time when he was trying to get his first part on Broadway, working as an elevator operator at Radio City Music Hall and meeting Marilyn Monroe at a restaurant in which he also worked. His stories about Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, and Cary Grant always had a moral -- I wish I had taken notes!
