The Love Boat captain, Gavin MacLeod, told me the story about having Bette Davis to his home in Brentwood for dinner. The evening was a disaster; she was demanding and rude. But the worst was yet to come. She reported her discontent to a Hollywood reporter, and the event became headline news.
Despite her often hateful behavior, she was in my opinion the best actress of the silver screen era. She was the first female President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
